Veterans Resource - Self Assessment

How do I know if I need therapy for posttraumatic stress?

  • You have recurrent nightmares about the event or memory or frequently think about the event or memory when you do not want to.
  • You go out of your way to avoid situations that remind you of the event or memory.
  • You are constantly on guard, watchful, or easily startled.
  • You feel numb or detached from others, activities, or your surroundings.

If you answered yes to most of these questions then you are likely exhibiting symptoms of trauma.

Quotes

"I went to therapy when I got back, but I still had a lot of anger. It wasn't helping the problem. I was referred to Veterans Resource by a friend, and I really didn't think it was going to help, but I was willing to try anything. The EMDR helped resolve my anger, and I just don't feel like that anymore. I wish I'd started sooner. F...yeah, I would have."
